About this site

I’m Michele Simon, a public health policy expert with more than 30 years of experience working on policies designed to prevent avoidable harm and protect communities. A significant part of my work has focused on alcohol policy in California, including licensing systems, pricing and advertising, enforcement structures, and the real-world impacts of alcohol availability and late-night service.

In 2022, I moved to Long Beach and made my home in Belmont Shore. What I began noticing here—especially around late-night alcohol activity in dense residential areas—reflected patterns I’ve studied professionally for decades. These issues are not random, they are shaped by policy decisions.

This site exists to share clear, evidence-based information about alcohol policy and how it affects neighborhood safety, quality of life, and public health in Long Beach. It’s intended as a resource for residents who want to better understand the issues, as well as a place to connect information to meaningful action. It's also a resource for policymakers and anyone wanting to make a difference.

My goal is simple: to help Long Beach residents understand how policy choices shape our environment—and how better policy can reduce preventable alcohol-related harm in our neighborhoods.
